"As a Palestinian artist, most of my work is deeply connected to our story, our culture, our history, and the political reality we live in every day. These themes cross paths in many ways, and working through them gives me a clearer understanding of our lived experience, which I try to express through my art. When I learned about this project, it immediately felt meaningful. It speaks about Gaza, about families trying to survive, and about life under occupation – subjects I already work with and care about. So it felt natural and important for me to be part of it.

I believe that honest art has the power to shift something in people to open eyes, to move hearts, and to carry truths that might otherwise be ignored. For me, creating this kind of art is a responsibility. It’s a way to give presence and voice to those who are unheard, those under the rubble, those living a reality the world often chooses not to see. If my art can help carry their stories, even a little, then I feel I’m doing something meaningful.

Art becomes essential during moments like this. It protects memory, holds stories, and preserves the small details that history books forget. It also helps future generations understand what happened not just through facts, but through feeling. Art can educate, inspire, and challenge people to see differently… and maybe, someday, help create a more peaceful and just future. That’s the hope we hold onto."

Alymani, who studied art in Palestine and Sweden, now lives in Prague. His work addresses questions of identity, belonging, and the consequences of occupation on the lives of the Palestinian population. In our collaboration, he creates a visual space for the applicant's words.

efore October 7, 2023, Abed J. was an engineer who ran a shop in Rafah. In April 2024, Abed lost his wife, who was a human rights lawyer, and his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter in an Israeli airstrike, along with six other family members. Then, in December 2024, his father and three brothers died. He currently lives with his mother and sister in a refugee camp in al-Mawasi – a region in southern Gaza that Israel has designated as a „safe zone“. Nevertheless, Israel regularly carries out attacks there. His apartment in Rafah was completely destroyed, as was the entire neighbourhood.

Although the applicant from Gaza lost in the specialized courts, he now intends to exhaust all possible legal avenues by filing a constitutional complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court [1], challenging decisions that have denied him effective legal protection.
